The West Valley Fault Line or the Marikina Valley Fault Line traverses a number of residential areas in Metro Manila. My father told me our subdivision was developed on a fault line. I am curious but I can't find any exact location published, like specific residential areas. I called the Geology Department of Phivolcs to give me the exact location of the fault in our subdivision but I was told their map is not detailed enough to see the street names or see minor landmarks, I have to go to their office to compare our subdivision map against theirs. I just surfed for a Phivolcs maps and made a list of the areas traversed by the fault. The maps from Phivolcs are old, I have not labeled some exact locations of the fault on those areas so new infrastructures are not included in it .
Minimum buffer zone from the fault is 5m, meaning the minimum distance of restriction from the fault. The buffer zone is violated a number of times by real estate developers, building structures on the fault. If there'll be a big earthquake, damage is expected within 1km radius from the fault.

Thanks for d info.. i hope u can include the areas in muntinlupa.
Hey nice info you shared. Is it possible to get a bigger file for the picture? The file on your blog is pixelized when zoomed in. Thanks
Have you noticed? The NCR Fault line is no longer available in PHIVOLCS site. Before it was just Pasig. Now, it's hard to see a clear copy of the fault line. You pointed out that the fault line in Pasig would hit St. Martin St. Currently Robinson's Land is building a multi story townhouse in that area. I think it is irresponsible of them to build it there.
This is a nice guide. Im curious as ive read that the marikina valley fault line ends at tagaytay. is there a map where i can see the exact location of the west and east valley fault. I would like to know as i have a property there and would like to know if its safe to construct my second home or not. thanks
Yes this is very informative, however, as an anonymous commenter above said, can we have a bigger file for the map. As it is it is very difficult to see where it really passes through. thanks.

if you click on a picture/map, it will point you to a bigger picture.
Thank you for the public service. A private individual is doing what a government agency is failing to do.
If Philvolcs would have the audacity to say that our house should be 5 meters away from the fault line or there must be a buffer zone of 5 meters left or right of the fault zone, then they should come up with fault maps that are at least 1:5000 in scale or larger (this means an error of 1 millimeter if you trace your house lot in this map is equivalent to 5 meters). Do we have these maps???
We would therefore presume that no matter how strong or solidly built your house is, even conforming to the building code, your structure would literally be split into two if it is sitting directly above the fault line.
This is therefore a major political will for the government to identify these zones with pin point accuracy of 5 meters and inform the residents to vacate these areas, help them as much as possible any plans for a resettlement.
PLEASE PROVIDE SOME SPECIFIC AREA OR BRGY'S IN EVERY CITY THATS POSSIBLE TO BE AFFECTED. THANKS .
